Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to a new week at Davebrook Schools & College. As we settle into Term 2 of the 2025/2026 Academic Session, you may have noticed that the weather is behaving differently than usual for January.
Instead of the typical dry chill, we are currently experiencing a “Weak Harmattan”—a combination of hazy mornings and intensely hot afternoons. To ensure our students remain healthy and focused, we have compiled this week’s weather outlook and health guidelines.
The Weather Outlook (Jan 19 – Jan 25)
We are expecting high temperatures this week, peaking at 36°C on Wednesday. The air quality remains slightly dusty, and the UV index is high.
- Mornings (7:00 AM – 8:00 AM): Cool and Hazy (approx. 23°C).
- Afternoons (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM): Very Hot and Dry (approx. 35°C – 36°C).
Student Wellness Guidelines
Given this fluctuation, we are implementing the following advisory for all students:
1. Uniform Adaptation (The “Layering” Rule) Students are advised to wear their school cardigans during the early morning commute to protect against the morning chill. However, please ensure they have a light cotton shirt underneath. As the heat peaks by midday, they will need to de-layer to prevent overheating.
2. Hydration is Mandatory With the heat index rising, “silent dehydration” is a risk. Please pack two water bottles or a larger flask for your ward. We are encouraging regular water breaks in the classrooms.
3. Respiratory Health For students with asthma or dust allergies, please ensure they have their necessary medication/inhalers in their bags. A face mask is recommended for the commute to and from school, especially along the Makogi/Shefu Road axis.
