At Davebrook Schools & College, we believe that the most profound learning happens when hands are busy and minds are engaged. This week, our preschool stars traded their pencils for glue and colourful paper in a vibrant House Collage Session anchored by Ms. Abimbola.
Set against the green backdrop of our outdoor learning area, this session was far more than a simple art class—it was a lesson in collaboration, patience, and precision.
Art in Action: The Process
Under Ms. Abimbola’s gentle guidance, the students gathered around a large canvas outlining a house. Their mission? To bring the structure to life using a mosaic of colorful paper cutouts.
The images capture the intense focus on their faces. You can see the children carefully selecting specific colors and deliberately placing them within the lines. They worked shoulder-to-shoulder, learning that a big project becomes easier when everyone contributes a small piece.
More Than Just Pasting
While the children saw a fun game of colors, our educators saw critical developmental milestones being met:
- Fine Motor Development: Picking up the small paper bits (the “pincer grip”) strengthens the finger muscles essential for writing later in their academic journey.
- Visual-Spatial Skills: Determining where each piece fits helps them understand shapes and boundaries.
- Social Collaboration: Working on a shared floor mat encourages sharing, turn-taking, and working toward a common goal.
A Masterpiece of Teamwork
By the end of the session, the black-and-white outline transformed into a colourful, textured home—built not with bricks, but with the creativity and teamwork of our brilliant students.
We commend Ms. Abimbola for facilitating such an engaging session that proves learning at Davebrook is always a hands-on adventure.
