The Land of Promise in Makogi: Davebrook Students Celebrate the Splendor of Akwa Ibom

The vibrant heritage of the Ibibio people took center stage at Davebrook Schools & College during our just-concluded 2026 Cultural Day. In a stunning display of “Social Excellence,” our students transformed the campus into a miniature “Land of Promise,” celebrating the rich customs, attire, and flavors of Akwa Ibom State.

Through these cultural celebrations, we teach our students that leadership requires a deep respect for the diverse identities that make Nigeria unique.

Academic Strategist Mrs. Adesida observed that these displays are essential for the “Total Child”. “When our students master the history of the Ibibio people while also excelling in academics, they become balanced leaders who can navigate any global environment with confidence,” she remarked. The event concluded with a standing ovation for the Akwa Ibom representatives, leaving the Davebrook community inspired by the depth and beauty of the South-South’s traditions.

A Royal Presentation of Ibibio Culture

The Akwa Ibom showcase stood out as a highlight of the day, featuring: Traditional Wedding Elegance: Students modeled the majestic Ibibio wedding dresses, including the Ofod Ukot Enwen and the intricate beaded crowns. They educated the audience on the cultural names and symbolic meanings behind each garment, representing the dignity and beauty of an Ibibio bride. Rhythms of the South-South: The air filled with the sounds of traditional percussion as students performed graceful and energetic Akwa Ibom dances. Their synchronized movements reflected the discipline we instill across all our pillars of excellence. A Culinary Heritage: Beyond the performances, the showcase highlighted the legendary Ibibio cuisine. Students presented the history behind iconic dishes like Afang and Edikang Ikong, proving why Akwa Ibom is considered a culinary heartbeat of Nigeria.
