Navigating the Heat Spike: 44°C “Real Feel” and Health Safety at Davebrook

MAKOGI, OGUN STATE – We are officially entering the peak of the “February Heat Spike.” While our mornings in Makogi may offer a deceptive freshness due to lingering night moisture, the afternoon heat index is projected to hit a scorching 44°C (Real Feel). ⚠️ Health Alert: Combatting “Apollo” & Heat Fatigue

The dangerous combination of fine Saharan dust and high humidity is the primary trigger for the spread of Conjunctivitis (Apollo) and seasonal respiratory issues. To protect our students and staff, we are enforcing the following safety measures:

  • Strict Hand-Eye Hygiene: Parents must emphasize to students that they must not rub their eyes with their hands. Dust acts as a mechanical irritant, and sweat can carry bacteria directly into the eye; regular face-washing with clean water is essential.
  • The “Two-Bottle” Minimum: The intense heat causes rapid dehydration. Every student must bring at least two large bottles of water for the school day.
  • Extreme UV Protection: With the UV Index reaching “Extreme” levels, students should remain in shaded areas during break times.
  • Commuter Safety: For those commuting along the Makogi/Shefu Road axis, we highly recommend the use of sunglasses and face masks to block both UV rays and harmful dust.
