The Ultimate Role Swap: Parents Take Charge of the Classroom at PLIP 2026

At Davebrook Schools & College, we believe that the most effective education happens when the home and the school work as one. This week, we brought that philosophy to life in a dynamic way during our just-concluded Parents Learning Integration Program (PLIP).

In a bold role-reversal, our parents traded their professional routines for the chalkboard. They stepped into the shoes of our educators, taking full charge of the classrooms to teach, inspire, and engage our students.

Beyond Observation: Why We Swap Roles

We designed the PLIP initiative to do more than just provide a fun change of pace. The program helps our parents understand the complex dynamics of teaching and learning firsthand.

By experiencing the classroom from the teacher’s perspective, parents gain valuable insights into how to help their children learn better at home. It also fosters a deeper appreciation for the tremendous work, patience, and skill our educators demonstrate every day.

Parents at the Podium: A Curriculum of Excellence

The energy in the classrooms was palpable as our “Guest Teachers” delivered their lessons with passion and expertise. They covered a wide array of subjects, ranging from complex mathematics to social sciences.

The Mathematics & Science Team:

  • Mr. Afolabi turned the classroom into a data hub, simplifying Linear Graphs.
  • Mr. Ogunmoye tackled advanced concepts with Trigonometric Ratios.
  • Mr. Imona guided students through the geometry of Length of Area and Volume of Similar Shapes.
  • Mrs. Kazeem taught practical financial skills to Primary 5 with Profit and Loss.
  • Mrs. Mohammed took students on a journey through Agricultural Science, focusing on Farm Animals and Disease Control.
  • Mrs. Charles-Ojo explored the human body in PHE, teaching the Skeletal System (Bones and Muscles).
  • Mrs. Clement engaged the younger minds in Primary 2 with Basic Science.

The Humanities & Vocational Team:

  • Mrs. Adebayo led a Social Studies session on Socialisation.
  • Mrs. Aroko-Ola discussed the social dynamics of Marriage.
  • Mrs. Adekule handled the critical Civic Education topic of Drug Use and Drug Abuse.
  • Mrs. Olu-Ojo brought practical skills to the Home Economics lab, teaching Kitchen Equipment and Utensils.
  • Mr. Moses refined the Primary 6 students’ command of English with Figures of Speech.
  • Mrs. Adekunle enhanced Primary 4’s communication skills through Reported Speech.

A Note of Gratitude

The success of this program relies entirely on the willingness of our parents to participate. Our Academic Strategist, Mrs. Adesida, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the courage and commitment shown by the participants, giving a special nod to the fathers who took time out of their schedules.

“I want to say a profound thank you to every parent who stepped forward to bridge the gap between home and school today. A special appreciation goes to our fathers—Mr. Afolabi, Mr. Ogunmoye, Mr. Imona, and Mr. Moses—for leading by example and showing that education is a shared responsibility.

To Mrs. Mohammed, Mrs. Charles-Ojo, Mrs. Aroko-Ola, Mrs. Adekule, Mrs. Olu-Ojo, Mrs. Adebayo, Mrs. Kazeem, Mrs. Adekunle, and Mrs. Clement, your dedication is inspiring. By swapping roles, you have not only appreciated the work of our educators but have also shown our students that learning is a lifelong journey. We are grateful for your partnership.”

We look forward to even more collaboration as we continue to nurture the leaders of tomorrow.
