At Davebrook Schools & College, we believe that February 14th offers an opportunity for something far greater than gifts and roses. This year, we steered the conversation away from fleeting romantic expressions and anchored it in a powerful new theme: “What I Am Becoming.”
We designed the day’s activities to redirect focus toward purposeful personal growth, character development, and the art of intentional living. By the end of the day, our students understood that Valentine’s Day is not just about who they are with, but about who they are becoming.
Setting the Tone
The event began with a reflective atmosphere as Tofunmi led the opening prayer, centering our minds on the purpose of the gathering. Following this, Korede and Micah delivered a warm welcome address, formally introducing the theme to the teachers and students.
Hadiza then took the stage to strip away the commercial layers of the holiday. She explained the theme by highlighting love as a force beyond romance—emphasizing friendship, kindness, respect, and communal responsibility.
Defining True Love
To deepen the conversation, Demilade delivered a short, impactful talk titled “What Is Love?” She broke down the concept into relatable terms, defining love not as a feeling, but as care, responsibility, respect, and the demonstration of good character.
To keep energy high, the MCs anchored an interactive “Complete the Quote” quiz session, which saw students participating enthusiastically and sharing their perspectives.
Panel Session: Love in Progress
A major highlight of the day was the panel discussion titled “Love in Progress.” The panel, featuring Mr. Victor, Mr. Wariri, Merit, Anjola, and Desirè, explored the concept of growing “from one degree of glory to another.”
They provided practical insights on how students can evolve in three key areas:
- Academics: Pursuing excellence as an act of self-love.
- Friendship: Choosing circles that elevate rather than drain.
- Character: Building the internal fortitude that defines a leader.
Keynote: The Courage to Be Real
The climax of the event was the keynote ministration by our Academic Strategist, Mrs. Adesida, titled “Unveiled – The Courage to Be Real.”
She addressed the silent struggles many students face—peer pressure, identity crises, and self-worth. Her message was clear: true transformation begins only when we embrace authenticity and allow God to shape our future. She challenged the students to drop their masks and walk in the confidence of who they are becoming.
A Purposeful Conclusion
The Principal delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the students for their engagement and the staff for the seamless execution of the event. The programme ended with a closing prayer, leaving the atmosphere calm, orderly, and charged with purpose.
By the end of the day, our students understood that Valentine’s Day is not just about who they are with, but about who they are becoming.
